Born near Henderson, Texas on September 3, 1932
Our beloved "Chuck" went home to be with the Lord on January 22, 2003
in Savannah Georgia at the age of 70.

After serving his country in the U.S. Navy he resided in the Cincinnati, Ohio Tri State Area where he served as a police officer for 34 years. He served with honor and distinction in Erlanger and Florence Kentucky, Milford, Ohio and retired from the Fairfax Police Department in 1990.

A lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, he combined his belief in Christian fellowship with his enjoyment of motorcycle travel and co founded the "Cycles for Christ".
He was also a member of "FOP" Lodge 112, a member in good standing with the Linwood Masonic Lodge 0567, of Cincinnati, Ohio and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason.

After his retirement he served his community on the Village of Fairfax city council and served in many active roles at the Maderia Christian Church.

Two years ago he began fulfilling a long time dream of traveling the United States by motor coach. In his travels he discovered and grew to love the Richmond Hill area, near  Savannah Georgia and became a member of the Coastal Community Christian Church. It was here in  Richmond Hill that he was taken from us by an unexpected and sudden illness.

He is survived and missed by his wife Marjorie, his son Charles, daughter Catherine,
step children David and Cheryl, five grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

A memorial from his grandson David
Written in December 2002, as a tribute to his then living Grandpa.

Who Is Your Superman?

Do you have a real life Superman in your life?  How about a Batman or maybe a
Spiderman? I do.  My super-hero is my grandpa and even though he doesn't run around
in red and blue tights and a cape, he possesses the same qualities every other super hero
possess.  Of these qualities, respect, responsibility, and belief in God, I believe, are the
three most essential that my grandpa represents.

You can't be a super-hero unless you impact another person's life.  This is a feat
my grandpa has accomplished.  He has instilled these qualities inside me, which has
impacted my life more than any other person. Of these qualities, respect was the first
taught to me.  At a young age, he taught the essentials needed to have proper respect for
authority figures.  Many examples have been made of this, but one in particular sticks in
my mind still to this day.  I used to take piano lessons, and to practice, I would go to my
grandparent's house to use their piano because I did not have one.  Well, my mom was
telling me to do something, and even though I do not remember what she was telling me
to do, I remember being extremely disrespectful to her.  The next thing I know my
grandpa was running down the stairs and got in my face to make sure a correction was
made.  Remembering times such as this, I incorporate such essentials into my daily life,
which produces astounding results from teachers and elders.

The second and most important quality set in my mind was the belief in God.  My
grandpa's childhood was very rough.  He was constantly on the move, changing schools
many times.  The only thing that was kept constant in his life was the love shared
between his siblings and parents.  Through this love, a new love fostered - a love for
Christ.  This is how I believe my grandpa's belief in God a\came about.  As he reached
adulthood, he seemed to lose touch of his religion, but, as a strong testament to the power
of God's love, my grandpa found his way back into the arms of Christ.

Every Sunday that I can remember, my grandpa was seen outside in my driveway
honking away at his horn, making sure I went to church and kept my faith strong.  This
struck me as an extreme sign of responsibility.  No one ever made my grandpa come to
my house on those Sundays to pick my family and myself up; he did it because of his
love for us.  This is the way I hope to live my life - just the way he and my grandma live
theirs.  Through his example, I have learned how to be a responsible young adult.

The impact these three very important qualities has had in my life is
indescribable.  Not only has it made my life a lot better, but also the lives of my family
members and friends.  But I am only human, and, as with every other human, I stumble
and fall in the path of life.  Even though I do not represent these qualities like I should,
they are always and always will be in my mind and in my heart.  So with these teachings
my grandpa has so willingly taught me, he is worthy of nothing less than the title of hero
and will always be considered so in my heart and in the hearts of so many others.
Thank you so very much grandpa.
